I have lived through 85 autumns. The autumns were experienced In many varied environments. The last 48 were celebrated On my small Davis, California, farm. Every autumn I have waited for The return of my belov-ed sparrows-- The gentle White-crowned Sparrow. These birds have vacated our area, Taking advantage of cool mountains. They left us last April as temperatures rose. Their wispy vocalizations were silent All during the hot summer months. We now welcome these avians Back to our cooling valley-farm. Our seed-laden feeders are visited During the whole day now-- Such a wonderful change from their Summer waiting-time emptiness. It is now once again joyful activity!
