My pair of House Finches raised one brood,
Arriving often at my feeder for extra-seed sustenance.
Then there was a hiatus with no visitations,
From either parents nor their new offspring.
Now the parents have returned alone today,
The male with his 'Fourth'-hues of fiery red.
I am sure they are readying for a second brood.
What a wonderful gift, writing by my window,
On this 250th celebration of our new nation.
I write alone, but with these birds,
My whole being fills with the joys of the world!
May we all be vigilant, continually correcting
The blunders that the unthinking attempt to force forward.
