A Great Oak on I80 Was Cut to Widen the Road opus 867

The following was my response to a writer
On Davis Neighbors who wrote:
". . .It was surely over 100-years- old. . ."
 ". . .A shady way to commute. . ." (by bike).

My response follows:

They call it progress. The next generation
   Won't even know or remember.
Our planet is becoming ever more 'humanized,' ('civilized?').,
   Losing tremendous variety. Our children
Will take ever greater refuge in their phone-devises,
   Living in a monotonous environment.
(BTW, Did you count the rings?
A few would have done so out of reverence.)
