Territory gained and possessed, and its history created:
This is the story of human movement and settling.
It has occurred thousands of times throughout history.
It has occurred many times in our own history,
As this country grew and needed 'more elbow room.'
We are now all living through Russia's present effort
To reclaim an area removed from its 'possession,'
After its great empire and power were reduced.
Cruelty, destruction, and death are witnessed every day.
This highlights why in this, our modern, complicated world interactions,
We must choose between strong, knowledgeable negotiation
And needless slaughter of animals and our children.
Blanket efforts to violently repossess in our time are clearly wrong.
Strength and power are important and necessary,
But continual attempt at negotiation and mutual respect
Are the only long-lasting way, along with wise voting,
We might survive together--
Slowly growing out of our inevitable differences.
