We Could Have Listened opus 808

31 March 2026 0837 Hours Climate, Biology, California, Environment, Migration, Zoology
What have we done to ourselves?
TO OURSELVES?
Must we not be cognizant of all
The other chaos we have indirectly caused?
From the myriad of examples available,
Consider the loss of hundreds of young seabirds,
Inexperienced with hunting fish, unable to adapt.
Our California coastal seas are warming,
Due to our neglect half a century ago,
The warning from science that this would occur!
Now the fish they have hunted for centuries
Are moving north to cooler waters
Or to deeper depths, out of reach of
Starving, young, inexperienced seabirds.
As time passes, we will be witnessing
The quiet deaths of as many other innocents.
Juxtaposed with those are the messages
We will hear about the unnecessary suffering
Of our own ignorant species, wondering
"Why is this happening to me and my family?"'
